Sheikh Zayed and Sheikh Shakhbut, recognizing the need for a hospital in Al Ain, decided to ask the hospital in Muscat to send them a resident doctor as they were impressed with the American hospitals which they had seen in Muscat and Bahrain. So on November 20, 1960, the first medical team arrived in Al Ain: Doctors Pat and Marian Kennedy, their four children, and Maria Mayer.
